Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally Review: The Slide-Happy Dirt Road Weapon

Most electric SUVs are designed for sterile highway cruising and urban school runs. Ford Performance took a completely different path with the Mustang Mach-E Rally: they built a dedicated, dirt-slinging rally weapon that encourages you to throw caution to the wind and slide through gravel at 60 mph.

Tested extensively on a custom rallycross course at Michigan Proving Grounds, the Mach-E Rally is an inspired homage to Ford's World Rally Championship heritage.

Rally Hardware Modifications

Ford didn't just add cosmetic stickers. The Mach-E Rally features serious mechanical upgrades:

• Suspension: 20mm raised ride height with specially tuned MagneRide dampers and softer springs to absorb severe ruts and jumps.
• Underbody Protection: Thick steel shielding protecting both front and rear electric drive units.
• Wheels & Tires: 19-inch gloss-white rally wheels wrapped in bespoke Michelin CrossClimate2 all-terrain rubber with reinforced sidewalls.
• Powertrain: Dual-motor AWD delivering 480 HP and 950 Nm of torque.

Real-World Usability

Despite its off-road party trick, the Mach-E Rally remains a highly practical everyday vehicle with a 91 kWh usable battery pack delivering 250 miles (402 km) of range, Ford BlueCruise hands-free highway driving, and seating for five.

It proves that electric vehicles don't have to take themselves so seriously—sometimes, the best reason to build a car is pure unadulterated fun.
