Lucid Gravity First Look: The Range King Gets an SUV Sibling

Lucid Motors proved they could build the most efficient electric sedan in the world with the Air. Now, they are attempting to do the same in the much more lucrative SUV segment with the Gravity.
The numbers are staggering. Lucid targets a range in excess of 440 miles from a battery pack roughly half the size of the one found in the Hummer EV. This efficiency allows for a lighter vehicle, which in turn improves handling, braking, and overall driving dynamics compared to its heavy competitors.
Inside, the Gravity features a massive 34-inch curved OLED display that floats above the steering wheel, dubbed the 'Clearview' display. Unlike the Air's sometimes convoluted dual-screen setup, the Gravity uses a much more unified, intuitive interface. The second and third rows fold completely flat, creating a cavernous cargo area that rivals full-size body-on-frame SUVs like the Cadillac Escalade. Clever packaging means the 'frunk' is large enough to function as a comfortable seating area when parked, perfect for tailgating.
The Gravity will initially be offered in two trims: the Touring and the Grand Touring. The Grand Touring will feature dual motors producing over 800 hp, capable of catapulting this large family SUV to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds. A more affordable rear-wheel-drive model is expected to follow later in the year.
Starting at under $80,000, the Gravity directly targets the Tesla Model X, Rivian R1S, and Mercedes EQS SUV. If Lucid can overcome their manufacturing bottlenecks, scale production efficiently, and deliver on these ambitious specs, the Gravity could be the high-volume vehicle that secures the company's long-term financial future. It is easily one of the most important EV launches of the year.
